Do you live in both light and shadow?

Some days, you want to feel bold and radiant — like a garden
in full bloom. Other days, you need something quieter, perhaps a bit edgy to alert the chatterboxes to steer clear.

You don’t wear jewelry just to match an outfit. You wear it to reflect your mood, your energy, your story — even if you never say a word.

My pieces are here to support that.

Whether you’re celebrating life or sitting with something deeper, Studio D jewelry helps you feel seen, grounded, and quietly powerful. Each piece is a way to express your inner world in a form that others can feel, even if they don’t quite understand it.

It’s jewelry for the in-between moments — the slow mornings, the brave decisions, the quiet rituals. I make it for creative women who want to express themselves fully, without apology.

Whether you’re wearing studs to feel grounded or a statement piece to feel bold, Studio D Beads is here to support your self-expression — however it shows up today.

I’m Dinah. I’ve always been a maker at heart. I loved a good art project as a kid. In college, I lived for the hours I spent in the art building, Rebecca Hall, getting my hands dirty making block prints of real and imagined people or sculpting organic shapes in clay. I even sculpted a mini-Michael Stipe. It was the 90’s, and I was a big R.E.M. fan.

But I ended up taking the “practical” path — majoring in English and later earning a master’s in technical writing. For years, I poured my energy into a career I was good at, but it left little room for art and a big hole where my creativity used to be.

Then I had a health crisis that made me rethink how I was spending my precious time.

I knew I couldn’t go another year without making creativity a central part of my life again.

What my twenty-something self didn’t realize was that a creative career path didn’t have to be about statement-making art. It could be as simple as making things that are pleasing to look at and meaningful. And that stuff is just as important! Now I see the beauty in the way we choose jewelry to mark our feelings and life events — to celebrate everything from our first BFF to our own badassery. And of course, to create a look that feels good to us.

BTW, Shonda Rhimes defines badassery as the practice of knowing, accepting, and celebrating one’s own accomplishments and gifts…and living life with swagger. Shonda knows, we have to do this for ourselves. If not, who will?

Soon after I started exploring jewelry making as a creative practice, I found a little shop in Asheville filled with colorful artisan glass beads. The thought that someone actually made those one at a time with a torch = exciting! I knew I had to learn how.

From that point on, flame and glass became my therapy, my meditation, my connection to creativity. And eventually, my business.

I design and make each piece by hand in my Virginia studio using flameworked artisan glass, enameled copper, and oxidized or polished metals.

Some pieces are vibrant and joyful, like Monty Don’s Jewel Garden.

Others are moody and textured, like a Tim Burton movie.

And no two pieces are exactly the same — which is kinda the point.

Studio D Beads is all about honoring contrast, celebrating imperfection, and making space for your whole self.
